Passive Stereo DI Box with Custom Modified Isolation Transformer
UNiKA PRO-MMD is a professional Passive DI box designed to match electronic devices with unbalanced line outputs like music players, media players, computers, tablets and phones to professional low impedance balanced inputs like those on mixing consoles, external mic preamps, powered speakers and soundcards. As PRO-MMD is a passive device, no batteries or other power supplies are required.
UNiKA PRO’s specially-selected audio isolation transformer ensures an exceptionally musical sound, rich in harmonics. PRO-MMD is two-way so can be used “in reverse” to connect balanced outputs to unbalanced inputs.
UNiKA PRO-MMD is equally at home on stage or in the studio with a rugged steel casing, full-length anti-slip mat and recessed connectors.
INPUT-THRU — 3 types of input connectors: a STEREO Mini-TRS Jack, individual L-R TRS Jacks and separate L-R RCA phono jacks. These input pairs do not mix together so only one source should be connected. All Left connectors are wired in parallel, as are the Right connectors. In this way the two unused L-R pairs can be used as THRU connectors to feed the original signal to a local monitor, headphone amplifier or instrument amp.
PAD Switch — reduces the Left and Right input levels by 20dB to prevent distortion from high level signals.
ISO OUT L and R — XLRs connect the transformer-balanced low impedance outputs to the inputs of a mixing console, sound card, pre-amp, powered-speaker or other audio device using a standard XLR cable.
GND/LIFT — Breaks the ground at the output of both transformers to eliminate hum and noise caused by ground loops.
Rugged Steel Chassis — with Anti-Scratch Paint.
Anti-Slip Mat — full-length, flexible plastic pad cushions and stabilises the PRO-MMD.

PRO-MMD can be used to safely connect and electronically-isolate a wide variety of audio devices. For extra safety PRO-MMD will not pass phantom power (48V) and, with suitable turnaround XLR adaptors, can be used “in reverse” to unbalance balanced line outputs.

Based on customer feedback, dealers and distributors asked us to make a flagship DI series with the emphasis on musicality but without a boutique price-tag. So how did we do this? It started with the transformer….
At the heart of the PRO-MMD is the UNiKA Pro EI9AE3R3, 1.25:1 audio isolation transformer. This is a modified, custom design with a special copper foil layer and dedicated grounding layer. It has been specially-selected to enhance musicality by producing a sound rich in harmonics.
Grounding interference and leakage caused by potential differences are minimised and low impedance balanced outputs allow long cable runs with the very best audio quality.
